Price Rise - from 6th April 2022

My prices haven't gone up for 2 1/2 years, since 1 October 2019. I knew a lot of people have had either reduced income or less financial security due to the Covid-19 pandemic, so wanted to avoid putting my prices up.

I've got though so far with the help of the Self Employment Income Support Scheme and other Grants to help businesses affected by Covid-19, when forced to close, and through reduced work and increased costs.

But recently I have had to re-evaluate, as not just business costs but the cost of living has also increased, and so I will be increasing my prices from 6th April, ie at the start of the next tax year. See the Prices and How to Book page for details.

If you have booked in with me online previously, you need to use a new booking link to book sessions from 7th April.  If you opted in to my email mailing list, you will have been sent this. Please email me if you need the new booking link.

45 mins = £34

Prices are for the length of session - so whatever you have in that time, the price is the same. Keeps it simple.

New Prices From 1st Oct 2017

I usually raise my prices each year on the 1st January. It was suggested to me recently that this is a terrible time to put prices up. Many people have spent a lot of money on presents, and on celebrating Christmas, New Year and/or other Festivities and are going into the coldest time of year low on funds.

So I am changing when I put my prices up, to the 1st of October.

My new prices will be:

As previously, the same prices will apply based on the length of the session (including consultation and treatment) regardless of what treatment option you choose.

Going Towards 2017... New Prices

I am fully booked up to the end of this year, and I am booking into January. From the 5th of December I will start taking bookings for February. So, I decided rather than wait till Jan 1st to put my new year prices here on my website, it would make more sense to do it now as that is the price that anyone booking me from now on will be paying. So all prices on my website are now 2017 prices.

(NB if there is a cancellation and you get an appointment in 2016, you will of course be charged 2016 prices.)

Changed Length of Sessions: Reflexology for new clients and Indian back, Neck and Head

The Short Version:

I've decided to make 2 changes to my session lengths and corresponding prices.
One has gone up, one has gone down.

A Reflexology Initial session - ie for a new client - was an hour for £29. It is now longer at an hour and a 1/4, and has therefore gone up to £34.

An Indian Upper Back, Neck and Head massage was 45 minutes for £23. It is now shorter at 35 minutes, and is therefore now only £20.

Want to know why? Read on...

The Long Version:

When I trained, we were taught to do most treatments, from a Swedish full body massage to an Indian Head Massage to a session of Reflexology in an hour, including consultation + aftercare time as this was the industry standard, particularly in spa's where bookings where made in hourly blocks, and it was emphasized to us that employers would expect us to stick strictly to that time. The exception to this was Aromatherapy full body massage where time would be between an hour and half to 2 hours.

I worked for myself right from the start so could decide for myself the length of treatments. It didn't take me long to decide that most people needed longer than an hour session to get a decent Swedish full body massage, especially on a first visit with a full consultation needing to be done before the person got on the couch. But even on subsequent visits - I particularly feel that the 15-20 mins allocated to the back is just not being long enough for most people. So I offer options of an hour and a 1/4 or an hour and a 1/2.

I also do not include receiving payment, getting feedback on the effects of the treatment, and booking a clients next appointment in the session time. I allow enough time between one appointment and the next to do this in a relaxed way which is a gentle transition from the relaxation of the session. I wouldn't want to be harrying people out the door in order to be punctual for the next client waiting to come in!

So that's the preamble, I guess.

Reflexology

I've offered shorter and longer sessions, but always recommended an hour as an initial session, and as the standard session length. I've always had some clients where their initial session felt shorter than ideal. As well as the fact that more time is taken up on a first visit with the consultation, with new feet, you are getting to know them and how sensitive they are in general, and where there are places that are sensitive or even painful. It is necessary to proceed with caution and only increasing pressure once you know it is ok to do so, to avoid pressing suddenly too firmly on a painful spot! But for some people an hour was enough, and for those where it felt cut short, more often than not they came back again a week or so later, and any areas not thoroughly worked on that first visit could then be thoroughly worked.

However I have been increasingly feeling that I should increase the length of the initial session. I myself have been regularly receiving an hour and a half or longer of Reflexology, and giving the same in return to a local Reflexologist colleague and friend. It never feels too long! I hesitated because making the session longer would also increase the fee - from £29 to £34. I have reviewed the charges of other Reflexologists in Lancaster and the wider area and though it varies, I note that 2 people in Lancaster charge £35 for an hour, and one charges £38 for an hour.

So... I have decided to make the initial session an hour and a 1/4 for £34 so I can work the feet thoroughly but with care and time to release any discomfort and to enable my client to relax fully. After which people can have the choice of a shorter session of an hour for £29 or even 45 minutes for £23, or keep having an hour and a 1/4 session.

Indian Head Massage

I wanted to make a cheaper option available for all the people who have tension in their upper back, around the shoulders and neck, and base of the skull. Or who mostly want a head massage. Who don't need a full back massage down to their lower back, and are happy to miss out the arms, face, and energy work part of a full Indian Head Massage. I've been working on some techniques working quite strongly and quickly around the shoulder blades in an upright seated position, even through clothes, meaning I don't need to leave the room for someone to get in a wrap towel AND it is unneccessary to get a client to lean forward onto pillows and bolsters for upper back work. I think I can do a good Back, Neck and Head massage in just 35 minutes, for which I am charging £20. Come and try it out!

New Year, New Prices, New Discount Offers!

New prices
As I mentioned in my last blog post my prices are going up a little. Just £2 a session to cover costs, so my rates are still lower than most of the other therapists I have seen advertised in this area.
45 mins (3/4 hr) = £22, 60 mins (1 hour) = £27,
75 mins (hour and a 1/4) = £32, 90 mins (hour and a 1/2) = £37,
105 mins (hour and 3/4) = £42, 120 mins (2 hours) = £47

However, essential oils can now be added to any treatment for FREE!
I am dropping the £2.50 extra charge. They are very high quality expensive oils, which is why I was charging extra for them, but I have this box full of potent and beautiful smelling oils with a limited shelf life and the majority of my clients are not making use of this wonderful therapeutic resource. I want to be sure all of you have the opportunity to add the many physical, mental, emotional and spiritual benefits of essential oils to your treatment if you wish, without being put off by the price.

Discounts
My previous discount system of % off turned out a bit complicated to calculate and remember, so I am changing to something simpler. I've also been asked to give some discount to people who can book 3 weekly appointments, so I have. Always happy to get feedback and suggestions. :O)

Discounts For Regular Appointments
For 5 appointments pre-booked and pre-paid in cash:
an appointment once a week = £20 off the total fee
an appointment every 2 weeks = £15 off the total fee
an appointment every 3 weeks = £10 off the total fee

So, for example, if you came for an hour session once a week for 5 weeks, without the discount this would be a total cost of £135, with the weekly discount of £20 off it would cost £105.

Discounts For Recommending a Friend
£5 off your next treatment when a friend has a treatment on your recommendation.

I've updated my side bar with my 2010 prices and am going to be out and about town today to replace my leaflets with updated ones. I'll try not to miss any, but I always make sure people know the cost before making an appointment anyway.

I've also made a new banner for the top of my blog page - what do you think?

Vouchers for the Holiday Season - special offer!

Are you running out of good present ideas for Christmas or other seasonal holidays?

Do you know someone who would really enjoy, appreciate and benefit from a treatment?

Do you sometimes find it difficult to find the right thing to give a special person?

For a thoughtful, special, quality gift...

- Buy a Holistyx voucher!

My prices are due to go up on the 1st of January by a couple of pounds a session. So, an hour session (eg reflexology, Indian Head Massage, Swedish Back Massage) will be £27 instead of £25, an hour and a 1/4 session (eg Swedish Full Body Massage) will be ££32 instead of £30, and an hour and a half session (eg an Aromatherapy Full Body Massage) will be £37 instead of £35. But as I still have in stock several vouchers printed up for £15, £20, £25, £30 and £35, I am doing an offer on these:

For any vouchers bought up to and including the end of December, if the voucher is redeemed against a treatment by the end of January, I'll charge 2009 prices. Ie a £25 voucher bought in December and used in January will be worth an hour session. If the voucher is redeemed later than that, I'll charge the £2 extra.

Either:
1. Send me a cheque (contact me for my home address) and I'll post a voucher first class in a festive envelope complete with my leaflet of information and contact details - either to you or directly to the person the gift is for.

2. Contact me and arrange to meet me to pay me in cash, and I will give the voucher directly to you.

If you prefer, I can also produce vouchers at 2010 prices.

Happy Holidays!
